Purple Kaido ST04 – Ramp, Reset & Relentless Pressure

Purple has always been the colour of resource manipulation, but ST04 Kaido leans into that identity with intent. This is a deck that plays with DON totals constantly. You spend big, you ramp hard, and you force life cards off the table before your opponent feels ready. It does not rely on one explosive turn. It builds towards them. If you enjoy controlling the pace of the game through DON management rather than pure tempo, Kaido ST04 offers a very deliberate style of play.

Leader Overview – Kaido ST04

Kaido from ST04 has a simple but brutal effect, activate Main once per turn. DON minus seven. Trash one card from your opponent’s life. Seven DON is a heavy cost. You cannot treat that lightly. But the ability to remove life without attacking changes how opponents defend. It pressures counter usage and makes late game turns far more threatening. The deck is built around ramping efficiently so that minus seven becomes realistic while still leaving you with options. You are not trying to rush into the leader ability blindly. You are trying to structure your turns so that when you pull the trigger, it shifts the life total in your favour without leaving you exposed.

Early Game – Establishing the DON Engine

Purple Kaido is at its best when it curves cleanly into eight and ten DON turns. The early game focuses on getting there.

Queen EB04

Queen EB04 is one of the key glue pieces. On play, you trash an Animal Kingdom Pirates card to draw two. That filtering smooths awkward hands and sets up mid game pieces. He also has an activate main effect that rests two DON to add one DON from your DON deck as rested if your leader is Animal Kingdom Pirates. It looks small, but over multiple turns it adds up. You are trading hand resources for card selection and incremental ramp.

Black Maria OP08

Black Maria OP08 is explosive if used correctly. Once per turn, if you control no other Black Maria, you add up to five DON from your DON deck as rested. At the end of your turn, you return DON from your field to your DON deck until your total matches your opponent’s. This card is about timing. You use it to unlock powerful mid game sequences, not to sit permanently ahead. It allows early access to high cost threats like King and Kaido. Understanding when to commit Black Maria is crucial. If you overextend into removal without gaining meaningful board presence, the advantage disappears.

Onigashima Island Stage

The three cost Island stage adds one rested DON when activated if your leader is Animal Kingdom Pirates. It is steady, consistent ramp that helps smooth the path towards your larger plays. This stage is not flashy. It is dependable.

Mid Game – Stabilise & Apply Pressure

Once you reach seven or eight DON, the deck begins to assert itself.

King OP04

King from OP04 protects itself by returning a DON to the DON deck instead of being KO’d. It also gains additional DON through its activate main ability if you control no other King. King is both threat and engine. It forces your opponent to invest real resources to clear it while helping you maintain momentum. When sequencing, consider whether you want King active for defence or available to swing first. Small choices change how much pressure you apply.

ST04 Queen

The ST04 Queen acts as a blocker and card filter. On play, DON minus one lets you draw two and trash one. This is often your stabilising piece. Against aggressive decks, a well timed Queen absorbs damage while refining your hand for a stronger follow up turn.

Chopper OP07 & Sanji OP07

Chopper OP07 offers blocking and conditional ramp if your DON total is lower than your opponent’s. Sanji OP07 reduces its cost when you have fewer DON in hand than your opponent and serves as a 2k counter blocker. These cards help bridge the early to mid game while supporting your ramp plan.

The Finishers – Kaido & Beyond

Purple Kaido does not lack closing power.

Kaido OP04

Kaido OP04 gains Rush with DON minus two if your leader is Animal Kingdom Pirates and can rest an opposing character of cost seven or less. At end of turn, it can reset two of your Big Mom Pirates type characters and add one rested DON. In this build, the Rush and rest effect are the core. You drop Kaido, clear a blocker or key threat, and immediately apply pressure. It pairs naturally with the leader ability. Removing life with Kaido ST04’s effect and then swinging with a Rush body creates difficult defensive sequences.

Kaido OP01

Kaido OP01 with DON minus six can KO all other characters. This is your reset button. You do not use it casually. You deploy it when the board state demands a hard clear. Planning ahead is important. Make sure you are not clearing your own advantage without a follow up.

Roger Promo

The Roger promo gives your leader plus 2,000 power if either player has ten DON. That extra power matters more than it seems. It pushes attacks over awkward thresholds and makes defending against your swings more expensive.

Events – Control & Reach5

Divine Departure

Divine Departure rests five DON to give a character minus 8,000 power. As a counter, it grants plus 3,000 power by trashing a card.It functions as flexible removal and defence. Holding it changes how opponents commit to board.

Flame Dragon Torch

Flame Dragon Torch rests six DON to give a Kaido plus 3,000 power and rest an opposing character. As a counter, DON minus one gives your leader plus 4,000 power. It supports aggressive finishing turns and protects your life total in key battles.

We’re Going to Claim the One Piece

This event searches the top five for an Animal Kingdom Pirates or Big Mom Pirates type card. In a synergy heavy list, consistent access to core pieces matters.

Gameplay Flow – Against Boa Hancock

In testing against Boa Hancock, the plan is clear. Mulligan for ramp or filtering. Establish Queen early. Use Black Maria to accelerate into King. The mid game revolves around stabilising with blockers and managing hand size carefully. Once ten DON is online, the leader ability and Roger pressure life totals significantly. A well timed Kaido OP04 rest effect removes blockers. Follow that with structured swings rather than reckless ones. Five to leader. Seven to leader. Force counters. Then consider whether the minus seven life removal seals the position. The deck rewards measured aggression. You are powerful, but you are not careless.
